SEAG
Frequently Asked Questions

Who are SEAG?
The Northern Ireland Transfer Test is overseen by the Schools' Entrance Assessment Group (SEAG), which comprises all 62 post-primary schools in Northern Ireland utilising academic selection for Year 8 admissions, including Controlled and Voluntary Grammar Schools and Integrated Schools.
What is the role of SEAG?
SEAG's primary function is to furnish an Entrance Assessment tailored for its member schools. The outcomes achieved by students will factor into the admissions criteria of grammar schools for pupils transitioning from primary to one of SEAG's member institutions.
Who are the SEAG member schools?
In Northern Ireland, there are 62 post-primary grammar schools that are members of SEAG and utilise academic selection as part or all of their Year 8 intake criteria.
What about the AQE/GL tests of old?
reviously, parents could choose for their child to sit either or both the AQE or PPTC (GL) Assessments. With the introduction of the new SEAG Transfer Test, every P7 pupil will be required to sit one version of the SEAG Transfer Test, and their results will be accepted by all 62 SEAG member schools.
Is there a cost to sit the SEAG Assessment?
To register a child for the SEAG Transfer Test, there is a registration fee of £20. However, pupils eligible for Free School Meals Entitlement (FSME) are exempt from this fee.
Do I need to register my child?
Participation in the Entrance Assessment is limited to registered pupils, as this enables SEAG to make necessary arrangements for your child to undergo the assessment at one of the SEAG Assessment Centres.
When can I register my child and how do I do it?
You will be able to register online through a the SEAG website. Registration is likely to be open between early May 2024 and mid-September 2023.
When will the assessment take place?
The Assessment will take place across two weekends; 16th November & 23rd November.
Would my child be able to sit the Transfer Test in Irish?
English and Gaeilge versions are available, please email admin@seagni.co.uk for further support.
Will my child be able to sit the assessment at their first-choice assessment centre?
All 62 schools have worked hard to ensure SEAG accommodates all students fairly. During the application, choose the most convenient school for your child's Entrance Assessment. If a school reaches capacity, it won't appear in the drop-down menu.

What if I miss the deadline? Will my child still be able to sit the assessment?
No, making a Pupil Application will not be feasible after the 5pm deadline on Friday, September 22, 2023. The section on the website where parents submit Pupil Applications will be inaccessible once the deadline passes.
