11 Plus tuition can be very helpful for students to feel confident ahead of their entrance exams, especially as they are at an age where formal exams are a relatively new and potentially scary experience! Understanding the requirements for each school and preparing accordingly also allows families to feel reassured that they are applying for the right school for their child.
The best time to start 11+ tutoring is usually in Year 4, as this allows children to build a strong foundation in the necessary subjects over two years. Some parents start earlier in Year 3 for foundational skills, while others wait until Year 5 for focused, intensive preparation closer to the exam date. Starting a year or 18 months before the exam is often recommended, but this can vary depending on a child's needs and the competitiveness of the area that they are applying for.
Passing the 11+ is challenging. But the difficulty will depend on your child's academic strengths and preparation. In our experience, many children find Non-Verbal Reasoning papers more difficult so we recommend that you prepare carefully for this paper.
